Inspection Terminal Instructor I

Chicago Transit Authority Chicago, IL (Onsite) Full-Time

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Associate’s degree or certification, plus three (3) years of teaching/instruction experience, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position. 

• Degree or certification and experience in a technical field are preferred. 

• Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration for safety sensitive positions. 

• Must be able to obtain Rail Safety Training certification. 

• Must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Required to travel to field locations subject to prevailing weather. 

• Required to occasionally work outdoors subject to prevailing weather. 

• Required to board and alight rail cars from grade level. 

• Required to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel as necessary when conducting training near and under rail cars.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Working knowledge of training methodologies, curriculum and test development, and instructional delivery techniques, tools, and facilitation. 

• Working knowledge of hand and power tool safety. 

• Basic knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of CTA rail cars or similar equipment. 

• Basic knowledge of the electrical and mechanical equipment used on CTA’s 5000-series rail cars or equipment. 

• Basic knowledge in at least one of the following areas: computer network troubleshooting and analysis, IGBT power electronics troubleshooting and analysis, hydraulics theory and application, or communications technology (voice over IP, analog-digital conversion, and video). 

• Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Good analytical and problem solving skills. 

• Basic skills using Microsoft Office software. 

• Basic math skills including working with fractions, decimals, and percentages. 

• Ability to read schematic drawing. 

• Ability to operate audio-visual and other equipment used in presenting training. 

• Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• General office environment. 

• Occasionally required to work in terminals, shops, and various field locations. 

• Subject to working adjacent to moving trains and power rails energized with 600 volts. Required to work around rail cars and equipment that are energized with 600 volts inside the maintenance shops. 

• Required to work various hours, days, and locations.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED

• Computer, hand and power tools.

Rate to be determined by applicant's entered service date and service date in union jurisdiction of this classification.
